Camel Wrestling Festival

Quirky & Local · Selçuk, İzmir Province

A centuries-old Yörük nomadic tradition brings decorated male camels together to wrestle (harmlessly - they lock necks and push, no real fighting) while brass bands play and crowds cheer, all against the backdrop of ancient Ephesus. It's one of the last living pieces of Anatolian nomadic culture still practiced at real scale.
