On the darkest, coldest night of the Shetland winter, up to a thousand costumed 'guizers' march a torchlit procession through Lerwick and set a full-size replica Viking longship on fire in the town square. It's part pagan fire festival, part fierce local pride, and completely free to watch - just dress warm, because January in Shetland does not mess around.
